Child care funding helps families pay for safe, reliable care while they work, go to school or take part in training.
Some families receive child care support while they are in the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. This can allow parents to participate in Virginia Initiative for Education and Work (VIEW) activities, education programs, and training programs. Child care support may also be available for families involved in child protective services.
Transitional child care provides up to 12 months of child care support following closure of the TANF case as long as clients are working and meet income guidelines.
Families who are not in the TANF program may still qualify for this child care support. These families may pay a portion of the child care cost, while the program covers the rest.
Local agencies receive funding to help manage the program. This includes reviewing applications and determining eligibility.
